Joyce Bailey Moorman, 75, of Indianola, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022, at South Sunflower County Hospital in Indianola.

She was born August 14, 1946, in Indianola, to Joseph Donald Bailey, Jr. and Annie Lois Johnson Bailey. Joyce lived her life in silence. At the age of 5, her parents enrolled her in the Mississippi School for the Deaf. She lived at the school for 9 months out of the year. Joyce learned sign language and how to communicate with others. She graduated in 1967 at the age of 21. Joyce learned to be independent during her time at the school. She enjoyed traveling and her greatest enjoyment came with the invention of text messaging because she could text her family and communicate more.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Joseph Donald Bailey, III and David Bailey; and grandson, Bentley Grimes.

She is survived by one daughter, Janet Renee Grimes of Sturgis; one sister, Carolyn Bailey Phillips of Indianola; three grandchildren, John (Hannah) Grimes of Perkinston, Bradley (Terrie) Grimes of Lockport, Louisiana, and Robert (Apyrl) Grimes, II of Sturgis; 10 great grandchildren, Anastasia Grimes, Averie Hodges, Delana Helen Grimes, Bradley James Grimes, II, Terry Maverick Grimes, Robert Grimes, III, Tiffany Marie Grimes, Brycen Harris, Jackson Butler, and Noah Grimes; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm, Monday, April 18, 2022, at Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mississippi School for the Deaf.
