Julia Riley Freeman, 80, of Sunflower, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.

Julia, affectionately known as Judy, was born September 19, 1942, in Sharkey County, to Lonnie Dale Riley and Maudie Mae Lowery Riley. She was a graduate of Holly Bluff Consolidated School. Judy married David "Flop" Freeman in 1963, and together they made their home in Sunflower. Judy worked for Community Bank and retired as Branch Manager after over 43 years of service. She enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, cooking, sewing, and bowling. Judy loved her family and always enjoyed spending time with them, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Bessie Riley Campbell; and two brothers, L.D. Riley and Roy Riley.

Judy is survived by her beloved husband, David "Flop" Freeman of Sunflower; two sons, David Lance Freeman (Marla) of Ridgeland and George Riley Freeman (Tammy) of Sunflower; two daughters, Lisa Freeman Spencer (Randy) of Brandon and Kay Freeman Dodge (Patrick) of Brandon; two brothers, Oscar Riley (Julie) of Holcomb and Ronnie Riley of Canton; two sisters, Kathy Riley Woods of Oil City and Deborah Riley Sellers (David) of Holly Bluff; six grandchildren, Erin King (Lucas), Jesse Blackwell, Morgan Wheeler (Matt), Kelly McDowell (Andrew), Vanda Spencer (Sam), and Will Dodge; and four great grandchildren, McCarty King, Townes King, Crew King and Cove Nelson.

The family will receive friends Monday, April 3, 2023, from 1:00 pm until the 2:00 pm memorial service, at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society or Sunflower Baptist Church.
