Lady Katherine
Mullen
Jul 5, 1937 — Jan 3, 2024
Jackson
Lady Katherine McKnight Mullen, born July 5, 1937, passed away peacefully in her daughter, Karyn Perry's home on January 3, 2024. Kathy was the daughter of Holloway and Claudie Mae McKnight of Bolivar County, Interstate, MS. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Indianola, MS.
Kathy married Robert "Hob" Mullen January 22, 1965, and were residents of Indianola, MS until Hob's death in January 2017. They were the proud parents of two daughters, Karyn "Kaka" Perry and Elizabeth "Missy" Abbey.
Kathy was a graduate of Shaw High School, Shaw, MS, and became a nurse for South Sunflower County Hospital (1958-1971). She was then a nurse for Dr. Walter Rose at Hull Brothers Clinic/Indianola Family Medical from 1971 until her retirement in 2004. For those who were their patients, Kathy loved each one dearly, and for our family and extended family, she was the nurse to all of us.
Kathy was the matriarch of her family, always caring for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all of the friends that came along with each of them. She and Hob were known for extending their love and opening their arms to their community. Their home on Julianne Drive in Indianola was known for its revolving door and always having enough food for whoever walked into their home. They were lovingly called "Papa Hob" and "Mama" by the many friends of Kaka and Missy who "adopted" them as their second parents.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Emmitt McKnight and one sister, Evelyn Weeks. She leaves behind cherished memories of her youngest sister, Almareen Palmer, her daughters, Kaka Perry of Jackson, MS and her daughter Missy Abbey with her husband Randy Abbey of Madison, MS. With those her 5 grandchildren: Rob Bellipanni and his wife Justice, Morgan Chism and her husband Matthew, McKenna Gibson and her husband Brennon, Collin Stafford, and Conner Stafford; and 6 great grandchildren, Brennan Chism, Stella Kate Chism, Hayden Mae Bellipanni, Delta Aven Gibson, Hunter Elizabeth Gibson, and Rowan Hob Gibson.
Visitation for Lady Katherine McKnight will be held at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola, MS from 9:30-10:30am on Saturday, January 6 with a service to follow. A private family graveside prayer service will be held immediately following.
