Marie Thomas, 96, of Monroe, Louisiana formerly of Moorhead, Mississippi passed away Thursday, April, 20, 2023 at her home surrounded by family listening to gospel songs and singing praises.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 10:00 am with services following at 11:00 am at Burton Funeral Home, Indianola, Mississippi. Graveside services will follow at Indianola Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements. Ms. Thomas was a faithful member of Swartz First Baptist Church until the time of her death. She retired after 40 years from Jockey International in Belzoni, Ms.

Ms. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband Edgar Cowan Thomas, her parents, Robert Buster and Ella Mae Farish, brothers James Farish, George Farish, R. W. Farish, and Roy Farish, her sisters Liz Dickey, Jean Hollingsworth, Flo Johnson, and granddaughter Amy Willingham.

Loved ones left to cherish many happy memories are brothers Jack Farish (Rita), Buster Farish (Brenda), John Farish, sister Jo Weaver. Daughters: Martha Prewitt, Nancy Bardwell (Ray). Grandchildren: Nicole Traweek (Jason), Ben Prewitt (Joey), Sara Beth Prewitt, Brian Bardwell, Matthew Bardwell. Great Grandchildren: Jane Claire Sutton (Sean), Paul Willingham (Ana), Adam Willingham, Leah Willingham, Dakota Rose Prewitt, Aubrey Traweek, Ava Traweek, Kayson Oliver, Kaden Oliver, and Axel Prewitt. Great-Great Grandchild: Jude Sutton and many more family members.

Marie enjoyed making homemade quilts, but if the pattern was too difficult, she would say, "don't get any more of that fabric." She taught each grandchild and great grandchild how to play her favorite card game Shanghai and Rook. There are several great memories throughout the years of playing cards but remember how she always loved to win and would laugh when she did. She always looked forward to family reunions. Her siblings would sit around telling stories on each other bringing lots of laughter.  She made sure her love of cooking was handed down to each generation. Some of her prized dishes include Chicken n' Dumplings and Orange cake. It was extremely important to her to include every family member in her prayers. Her life was filled with the love of Jesus Christ, and she made sure to share the word with everyone she met. Telling her grandchildren Bible stories and drawing words on their backs always gave her such joy. Love and faithfulness to her Lord, family, kindness, laughter and an abundance of joy is her legacy.
