Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Mayfield Stevens, 80, of Indianola, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Baptist Hospital, Jackson. Liz was born in Hattiesburg and was the daughter of Robert Lester and May Eleen Mills Mayfield.

Liz received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology from Belhaven University, Jackson. She was retired from St. Dominic Hospital after 25 years of service. She married the love of her life, Bill on February 15, 1964. Liz was a faithful member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Jackson for 47 years. While there, she served in numerous positions on the PW Council, cooked and drove for Meals on Wheels, served on the Nominating Committee, and was a faithful member of Circle. Liz and Bill worked behind the scenes ministering to those in need. One of their most valuable contributions made to Covenant was starting and leading the 12-Step Sunday School Class in 1990 until they moved to Indianola. She was very active in her community and was a member of DAR, David Holmes Chapter and the National Chapter, Dames of the Magna Carta, Town & Country Garden Club, Twentieth Century Club, and Explorer's Bible Study. Liz was a member of First United Methodist Church, Indianola.

Liz was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John William Mayfield and Dr. James Robert Mayfield. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Bill Stevens of Indianola; daughter, Missy Stevens Pitts and husband Will; grandchildren, Lizzy Pitts, Mitchell Pitts, and Molly Pitts all of Indianola; sister-in-law, Joanna Mayfield of Carthage; nieces, Mary Elisa Mayfield Boyd, Debbie Mayfield Bush; nephew, James Michael Mayfield and wife Alisha Whatley Mayfield; great niece Mabry Mayfield and great nephew Reed Mayfield.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 11:00 am in Wiggins Cemetery, Carthage. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 12, 2015 from 1:00 pm until the 2:00 pm memorial service at First United Methodist Church, Indianola, all under the direction of Burton Funeral Home, Indianola.
