Obituary

Mildred Duncan Sanders, 98, of Indianola, passed away peacefully Monday, January 29, 2024 at Indywood Personal Care Home in Indianola.

Mildred was born on November 2, 1925, in Glen Allen, MS, to Farrell and J.E. Duncan. She was a devout Catholic and a dedicated member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Mildred's life was marked by faith and service. She leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth. Mildred was a pillar of strength for her family, a wonderful mother, and a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother. Her culinary skills were legendary, and she delighted in hosting family gatherings during the holidays. Mildred's kitchen was a place of joy and togetherness. In addition to her role as a homemaker, Mildred dedicated over 30 years of her life as a Purchasing Agent at Modern Line Products. May her soul rest in eternal peace.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Sanders; sons, Richard and Scooter Sanders; and grandson, David Sanders.

Mildred is survived by her son, Thomas Sanders, Jr. (Barbara) of Fayetteville, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Farrell Sanders Dowling (Wesley) of Marietta, Georgia, Carrie Sanders Janous (Jay) of Leland, Tom Sanders, III (Jennifer) of Dallas, Texas, Anna Duncan Sanders of Phoenix, Arizona, Mary Allison Ray (Jaimie) of Pass Christian, and Liza Sanders of Jackson; and fourteen great grandchildren.

Services to celebrate Mildred's life offering an opportunity for family and friends to come together in remembrance and support will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Indianola on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, with visitation beginning at 1:30 pm followed by the funeral mass beginning at 2:30 pm. Burial will follow in Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the caregivers at Indywood Personal Care Home and Adoration Hospice for their compassionate support during Mildred's final days.
