Nell Salter Carter, 95, of Belzoni, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Hospice Ministries in Jackson.
She was born August 7, 1922 in Philadelphia, Mississippi to John Claud and Emma Lane Salter.
Mrs. Carter was a Christian and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Belzoni. She was an avid gardener, an accomplished seamstress, and loved helping people. Mrs. Carter loved children and was a teacher for Mississippi Public Schools for over 30 years until her retirement in 1984.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Malcolm Carter; two brothers, Leo Salter and Claud Salter; and one sister, Mavis Tingle.
Mrs. Carter is survived by two children, Meredith Carter and wife Catherine of Piperton, Tennessee and Kay Haynes and husband Gary of Franklinton, Louisiana; one sister, Eunice Turner of Eupora; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Russell and husband Jason, Russell Joseph Haynes, and Hayden Ellis Haynes and wife Allison; and two great grandchildren, Hallie Elizabeth Garner and Peyton Jason Russell.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 25, 2018 from 9:30 am until the 11:00 am funeral service at First Baptist Church in Belzoni. Interment will be in Belzoni Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola is in charge of arrangements.
