Rachel Cooksey Burleson, 87, of Belzoni, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023, at her home.

Rachel was born November 23, 1935, in Philadelphia, Mississippi, to Robert Lee and Annie Bland Cooksey. She married Clinton Eugene Burleson in 1950, and they spent the next 55 years side by side in multiple businesses in Belzoni. Rachel enjoyed casino trips, selling antiques, gardening and doing yardwork. She even tended to her own yard until a couple of years ago. Rachel loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Belzoni.

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clint Burleson; daughter, Jimmie Burleson; two brothers, Sammy Cooksey and Robert Cooksey; and three sisters, Grace Cook, Ann Bordeaux, and Anita Butler.

She is survived by three daughters, Peggy Carpenter of Greenville, Patricia (T.A.) Tharp of Isola; and Teresa (Mike) Holloway of Belzoni; three sisters, Flora Baugh of Brandon, Mary Baugh of Starkville, and Jessie Hood of Guntown; eleven grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, January 23, 2023, at Greencrest Memorial Gardens in Belzoni with Rev. Wayne Kimbrough officiating. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
