Richard Edward "Ricky" Willoughby, 76, of Cruger, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Humphreys County Nursing Center in Belzoni.

Ricky was born June 27, 1947, in Humphreys County, to James Edward and Dannie Lee Houston Willoughby. His love for fishing led to his career as a commercial fisherman and he and his father operated a fish market in Grenada for many years. Ricky's love of being on the river fishing led to his friends giving him the nickname River Rat which was shortened to Rat.  He also enjoyed hunting, picking on and agitating people.  Ricky also loved a good cigarette and a cold Dr. Pepper. He was a simple man that enjoyed the simple things in life.

Ricky was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Edward Willoughby, Jr.; and two sisters, Barbara Sue Breazeale and Ann Willoughby Gilmer.

He is survived by his daughter, Christy Willoughby Bell of Belzoni; sister, Mary Joyce McCarty (Jimmy) of Pascagoula; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Mathena Cemetery in Belzoni. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
