Richmond Lewis Scott Poindexter, Jr. (Scott) passed away on Monday, December 22, 2025. After multiple near-death encounters, Scott finished his race surrounded by Sis, his family, and loved ones as his heart eventually gave out.

Scott was born in Greenwood, MS, on August 8, 1938, to Richmond Lewis Scott Poindexter, Sr. and Kathleene Jones Poindexter of Morgan City, MS. Morgan City was his stomping ground for childhood roughhousing, playing in the cotton fields, and making fun trouble with his brothers, cousins, and friends. When he was young, he attended Morgan City High School. After graduating, he attended Mississippi State University and earned a B.S. in Ag Business in 1960.

Before finishing at MSU, he married the love of his life, Mary Elmer Nelson (Sis) Poindexter, on January 13, 1958. They were 17 and 19 years old when they married and made Inverness, MS, their home in 1960, where they raised their five children and eventually would raise Robert Van, the youngest of Scott's four brothers.

Scott and Sis loved to travel, and their most common travel routes were between Memphis and New Orleans. He loved being with his "Sis" and their friends. Sometimes having fun involved dancing to good music. Mostly, having fun meant hosting parties at their home with friends and family. Their hospitality, without exception, always extended to their five children's friends. Hospitality is one of their greatest legacies to their children and grandchildren.

Scott was a devout Methodist and attended Inverness Methodist Church. As a certified lay preacher in the United Methodist Conference, Scott enjoyed writing and preaching sermons whenever he was invited. He loved his church and held every office there that could be held within a Methodist Church, serving in some roles for multiple years and terms.

Scott farmed for 30 years with each of his brothers and son at different times. He founded Area Phonebook Company with the help of five business partners after he retired from his farm. After retiring a second time, he worked for MS Delta Community College Foundation board for ten years. He retired for good at age 79.

Over the years, Scott gave his time selflessly. He loved the Emmaus and Chrysalis communities and going to do mission work in Honduras. He served on numerous boards, such as school boards and bank advisory boards, and was president of the Mississippi State Bulldog Club. Scott also loved the Rotary Club. He was a master woodworker, and Sis, their children, and grandchildren cherish the pieces he crafted for them over the years. Each year for Valentine's Day, he made a special wooden "treasure" for each of his daughters.

Scott's greatest love was his Sis, and he considered their Springs on the beach together to be some of their best times. Next was his God. And finally, he loved his family. Sis says, "He had a good time raising kids." He always proudly bragged on any relative who was competing, whether in life, school, sports, or work. Scott was a tenacious competitor and relished in having his family compete. Nothing was too small or too large.

Finally, Scott self-published three controversial books with some degree of success. Success is a relative term used loosely. He was very proud of his books.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Poindexter, Sr., and Kathleene Poindexter, and by his brother Will Green Poindexter (III).

He is survived by his wife Sis of 67 years; by his children Draughon McPherson (Bill) of Indianola, Elyette Robertson (Jim) of Indianola, Lewis Poindexter (Ruth Carmen) of Inverness, Mary Howard King (Stephen) of Tupelo, and Warner Creekmore (Sam) of New Albany; by his grandchildren: Will McPherson (Meagen), Taylor Banahan (Johnny), Jones McPherson (Laura), James Robertson (Anne Barry), John Thomas Robertson, Mary Nelson Robertson, Carmen Allen Rogers (Matt), Emma Kate Morgan (Matt), Scott Poindexter (Jordan), Daniel King (Micaela), Jace King (Jessie), Warner Wills King, Callie Tyler (Bridger), Josh Creekmore (Anna), Lewis Creekmore (Maggie Jo); and by 20 great-grandchildren: Charlie McPherson, Tatum McPherson, Jack McPherson, Anne Chamberlain Banahan, Abigail Banahan, Hart Banahan, Fisher McPherson, Jane McPherson, Mamie McPherson; Cooke Robertson, Helen Robertson, Anne Alan Robertson; Kyle Rogers, Haley Rogers; Richmond Poindexter, Maggie Poindexter; Warner Tyler; Dempsey Creekmore, Libba Creekmore, Theodore Creekmore. He also leaves his brothers Led (Dotty) of Morgan City and Robert Van (Allison) of Inverness and his sister-in-law Malinda Poindexter to carry on for him.

Scott and the entire Poindexter Family are ever so grateful to all of his precious caregivers: Annie Ruth Thomas, Sylvia Little, Flora Perrin, Mae Stewart, Marion Brandon, Darrell Caldwell, Jessie Ransome, and Betty Ross. We also appreciate the Inverness Methodist Church for being so loving and supportive ("the most special church in the world"), as well as all his doctors, especially Dr. Walter Rose and Dr. Eddie Donahoe.

Memorials may be made to Indianola Academy, MS Delta Community College Foundation, or a charity of one's choosing.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Inverness Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Southside Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
