Robert Wayne Hughes, 79, of Indianola, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at Indianola Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
Robert was born May 19, 1943, in Holcomb, to John Haney Hughes and Dora Emmons Hughes. He was raised in Gooden Lake, Silver City, Belzoni, and Isola. Robert graduated from Isola High School in 1961. He was a United States Navy Veteran serving from 1965 until 1969. After his discharge, he worked as a tool and dye maker at Modern Line Products and worked in the catfish business for 17 years. Robert then owned Hughes Heating and Cooling in 1992 where he also did electrical and construction work until his retirement in 2012. He was a loving family man. Robert was the definition of love, loving everyone with his entire heart. He was a very honest and hardworking man. Robert had a strong Christian faith and loved the Lord. He was faithful in praying for his family and friends. Robert was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Indianola for as long as his health allowed. He was a member of Roy Stubbs' Sunday School Class and sang in the choir for 16 years.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, John Haney Hughes and Dora Emmons Hughes; brother, JH Hughes; and three sisters, Opal, Earleane, and Christine.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Joy Bethea Hughes of Indianola; children, Robby Hughes, Toni Noah, Misty Sliman (Emile), Peter Snell, Adam Snell (Amanda), and Elise Mallette; brother, Jerry Hughes; sisters, Elizabeth Linebarger and Sally Mooney all of Aiken, South Carolina; grandchildren, Alex Noah, Caley Noah, Shelby Sliman, Logan Sliman, Allie Snell, Barrett Snell, and Rob Mitchell.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 2, 2022, from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm, at First Baptist Church in Indianola. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 pm with Dr. Guy Burke officiating. Burial will follow in Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
