Ruby Lee Slocum Cole, 90, of Water Valley, and formerly of Greenville, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Yalobusha General Hospital in Water Valley.

Ruby was born April 3, 1933, in Minter City, to Wesley and Nellie Buchanan Slocum. She grew up in Indianola where she attended school. Ruby enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, puzzles, and gardening. She loved life. Ruby worked for Delta & Pine Land in Scott for many years and later worked for Burford Brothers Printing in Greenville. She loved her family. Ruby was a devoted caregiver for her son, who suffered from muscular dystrophy, until his death in 1974, at the age of 19. She was a Baptist by faith.

Ruby is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Russell Cole; son, Wayne Cole; three sisters; and four brothers.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Billy) Hall of Coffeeville and grandson, Billy Hall, Jr. of Russellville, Kentucky.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 19, 2023, from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm, at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. Graveside services will follow at 1:00 pm, at Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
