Ruth Jones Bowlin, 88, of Indianola, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2024, at South Sunflower County Hospital.

Ruth was born June 29, 1936, in Memphis, Tennessee, to John Thomas Jones and Mary Eleanor Jones. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Ruth was a stay-at-home mom while her children were growing up and served as den mother for her son's Cub Scout Troop. She was an avid cook and baker. Ruth authored several cookbooks that she gave to all her friends. She was a graduate of Delta Beauty College. Ruth ultimately worked in the secretarial field for many years prior to her retirement. Ruth was a member and former president of the Optimist Club. She organized the first Christmas parade in Indianola. Ruth was also a member of the Pilot Club. She was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church in Indianola.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles Jones; sister, Faye Cable; son, Mickey Bowlin; and granddaughter, India Hawkins.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 71 years, Leroy Bowlin of Indianola; son, Glen Bowlin (Gaye) of Lake Village, Arkansas; daughter, Marcia Bowlin of Indianola; three brothers, David Jones of Columbia, South Carolina, Bobby Jones (Sharon) of Lakeland, Florida, and Ronnie Jones (Dottie) of Lakeland, Florida; two sisters, Jenny Jackson (Gene) and Linda Helm both of Lakeland, Florida; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and grandchildren in love; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. The funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 11:00 am with Rev. Jimmy Pender officiating. Burial will follow in Old Cleveland Cemetery in Cleveland. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
