Ruth Reeves Sykes, 95, of Indianola, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Indywood in Indianola.

Ruth was born June 7, 1930, in Moorhead, to Marvin and Zelma Griffin Reeves. She was a homemaker and seamstress. Ruth made drapes for over 30 years and enjoyed painting cypress-kneed Santa Clauses, quilting, making cotton boll ornaments, and painting wooden crafts her husband made. She was a devoted member of Indianola First Methodist Church, where she was in the Swartz-Ward-Rose Sunday School class. Ruth taught Sunday School for many years and served on the mission trips to Honduras for 6 years. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alford Sykes; sister, Mary Louise Font; and three brothers, Nathan Reeves, Dennis Harold Reeves, and M.E. Reeves, Jr.

She is survived by three sons, David Alford Sykes (Nancy), Barry Allan Sykes (Laura), and Donald Glenn Sykes (Dorothy); sister, Mary Ann McMorris; six grandchildren, Adam Sykes (Liz), Jamie Sykes Pace (Jonathon), Claire Sykes Cleveland (Jarrod), Morgan Sykes Hudson (Casey), Alex Sykes (Anna), Michael Sykes (Madeleine); great grandchildren, Landon Sykes, Dylan Sykes, Katie Reeves Pace, Molly Pace, Dalton Cleveland, Scarlet Cleveland, Liam Hudson, Brodie Hudson, Emma Hudson, Ben Sykes, James Sykes, Luke Sykes, Owen Sykes, and Pierce Sykes.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 23, 2026, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Indianola First Methodist Church. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Indianola Memorial Gardens. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
