Sarah Ann Cliett Fletcher, 89, of Madison, MS passed from this earthly life into the arms of Jesus on Friday, November 24, 2023. She was born on December 28, 1933, in West Point, MS to Mr. and Mrs. James Thomas Cliett.  Sarah Ann's parents were strong encouragers of her musical gift and talent. One of her fondest memories is when her father would arrive home from work and ask her to play whatever piano piece she had been working on that day.

Sarah Ann received the bachelor's degree in music from MS College for Women and a Master of Music in Piano from Florida State University where she studied under composer and pianist, Ernst von Dohnanyi.

She began her teaching career at Indianola High School as choral music director in 1959. Sarah Ann met her beloved husband Wyndham Burton 'Bubber' Fletcher, Jr. at Indianola First Methodist Church and they married in 1962. She was truly adored by Bubber who was forever grateful for her steadfast love and care throughout their many years together.  He was her greatest fan.  They raised their three daughters in Indianola where they were active members in their church and community. Sarah Ann and Bubber later moved to Madison, MS where they were members of Wesley Chapel and Olde Towne Community Church.

Sarah Ann was the church pianist at Indianola First Methodist for many, many years as well as director of the Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers from 1979 to 1987 at Indianola Academy (IA).  She musically directed numerous high school theatre productions at IA and also started the IA Esprit Show Choir in 1985. In 2007, she received the Distinguished Service Award from Indianola Academy.

Sarah Ann chose to share her gift of music with the church, school, and community in countless ways. She will be remembered as a long-time musical director for the Mid-Delta Arts Association in Indianola. She influenced untold lives of people, both young and old alike, through her love for music and her faithful trust in Christ.

Her faith was marked by compassion, grace, and mercy. She was loyal friend, devoted wife, and selfless mother. Life was never about her—she was fixed on serving the Lord by serving others.

Preceded in death by her husband, Wyndham Burton "Bubber" Fletcher, Jr.; Father, James Thomas Cliett; Mother, Sallie Lou Cliett; Brothers, Russell Cliett, Charlie Cliett, Thomas Cliett, and sister, Mary Emma Cliett.

She is survived by her three daughters, Sallie Evelyn Fletcher (Madison, MS),  Katherine Fletcher Godfrey (Madison, MS), Ann Wyndham Chambers and husband, Rob (Belden, MS), and three dearly loved grandchildren, Rance Godfrey (Columbia, TN), Hamp Godfrey (Madison, MS), and Olivia Hope Chambers (Belden, MS), and nephew, Chuck Cliett (Little Rock, AR).

She is also survived by family of the late Leslie Reid Fletcher of Indianola, Adelaide Fletcher of Indianola, and their three sons Reid, Jr and family of Huntsville, AL, Spence and family of Ridgeland, MS and Josh and family of Jonesboro, AR.

Sarah Ann's Celebration of Life service will be Tuesday, November 28 at 10:30 a.m. at Indianola First Methodist Church with visitation in the sanctuary from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
