Sherry departed from this earth January 2, 2023, and we're sure she was met with all the joys Heaven promises. She was born June 8, 1938, and grew up in Sunflower, MS, completing elementary school there and high school in Moorhead at Sunflower Jr. College, where she was a member of National Honor Society. Next she would spend a year at M.S.C.W., then complete her Biology degree at Millsaps College. To fulfill her degree and become a Medical Technologist, Sherry studied at University Medical School. Sherry worked as a Medical Technologist at General Hospital in Greenville, MS, Sunflower County Medical Center, Indianola, MS, University Medical Center Blood Bank, Jackson, MS, and lastly at The Pathology Lab, a private organization in Metairie, LA.

Sherry was very "kind-hearted." Once she felt the need to come home and help care for her mother, she became employed at Delta Pride as a Quality Control Manager. Actually, she was called by another name, which honored Sherry.....The Turtle Lady. When fish were brought in from the ponds, turtles occasionally made it in also....this was the turtles' lucky day. When Sherry got word that turtles would sometimes get injured in the process, things at Delta Pride had to change! Now turtles had a designated place to rest until end of workday and they got to go home with Sherry and on to the Sunflower River that ran behind her home. There they made friends with turtles that Sherry rescued from the highway!

Preceding Sherry in death were her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Thomas Lancaster of Sunflower, MS and Mr. and Mrs. William H. Morgan of Charleston, MS. also her parents, John (Jack) Thomas Lancaster, Jr. and Marcelle Morgan Lancaster of Sunflower, MS. Her very special nephew, John Perkins Lancaster, also preceded Sherry's death.

Surviving her in death are her brothers, John T. Lancaster (Kathryn), of Indianola, MS, and William (Bill) Edward Lancaster (Kay), of Sunflower, MS.

Sherry was very "generous". She was very involved in her nephew's and niece's young lives.  They loved to see her coming from her Metairie home with huge sacks of sports tee shirts, Mardi Gras beads and candy then huge coolers full of fresh shrimp for all the family to gather and shell. She also leaves them now, including her adored nephew, Randall Morgan Lancaster (Laura) and their children, Lillian, Virginia and Luke of Birmingham, AL, also Marcy Blair Lancaster, her treasured niece, from South Korea. So important in Sherry's recent years has been her friend and helper, Gloria Easley. Gloria came at all hours to help and the two developed a special and close relationship. As Sherry's health declined, Gloria promised to adopt and love Todd Man, Sherry's beloved rescue shelter dog.

The Memorial Graveside Service will take place at Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Indianola City Cemetery, 851 Main St., Indianola, MS.
