Susan Elizabeth Davis Ray, 73, of Anguilla, Mississippi, left us peacefully on November 27, 2024, surrounded by her husband and children after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. A beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Susan or "Su-Su" or "Granny" will always be remembered for her thoughtful kindness, servant's heart, and strength through many storms.

Born on August 18, 1951 in Calhoun City, Mississippi, Susan grew up as one of eight children born to Thoman Leland Davis and Eula Mescale "Chick" Davis. When she wasn't helping around the house, she was learning the art of cooking from her mother…a skill that served her and countless others well throughout her life. This skill became her ministry and her love language to many in the community and surrounding areas. Susan was a faithful member of Rolling Fork First Baptist Church where she served on many committees and taught children's Sunday School for 15 years.

A retired elementary school teacher of 43 years, Susan devoted most of her career to the children of South Delta School District. She served as a pre-school teacher and lived out her philosophy of love and nurture first…evidenced by the many miles put on the rocking chair that resided in her classroom.

On July 22, 1977, Susan married the love of her life, William Michael (Mike) Ray. The two shared 47 years of life facing and outlasting many storms together. Their love story lives as a shining example of what love can truly be. Their love bore three children and later five grandchildren. She was a mother of the highest degree and continued that motherhood into the adult lives of her children as a most trusted confidant and friend.

Susan is survived by her husband, William Michael Ray; her son William Michael Ray, Jr. (Billy) and his wife Summer Jones Ray; her daughter Katey Ray Triplett and her husband Kellis Jack Triplett; and 5 grandchildren Sarah Ellen (Ellie) Ray, Charles David (Charlie) Ray, Amelia Grace (Millie) Ray, Raylee Triplett, and Harper Grace Triplett. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth Davis (Betsy) Ray, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Davis; her sister, Joy Barry; and her brother, Tommy Davis and Bill Davis.

A service to celebrate Susan's life will be held at Rolling Fork First Baptist Church on Monday, December 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Burial service will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
