Syble Walker Johnson and John Johnson Jr. were married in 1959 and were together for 58 years, in that time they had three children, Diane Kielhorn, Donna Douglas, and John Johnson III. Syble Walker Johnson passed away on August 7, 2017, in Yakima, WA followed by her husband John Johnson who passed away on August 30, 2020, in Yakima, WA. They were both loving parents, grandparents, and great grandparents who lived very full and very happy lives.
Syble was born on April 3, 1939, to parents Monroe, and Grace Walker. She grew up in Isola Mississippi with her 7 sisters. She attended Isola High School where she graduated as Valedictorian. She enjoyed playing basketball and spending time with her siblings during those years. After graduation, she moved to San Diego, CA, where she went to work for the Department of the Navy, and later started a career with the FBI and the Department of the Army. In 1959 she met her husband John Johnson Jr.
John was born in his grandmother's home in Darling, MN, on April 1, 1933, to John Edgar Johnson Sr. and Mildred Olson. He later moved to Yakima, WA with his family where he attended Yakima High School. John joined the Navy in 1951, during his service he fought in Korea, the Philippines, and Vietnam. He retired from the military in 1971. After retiring, John returned to Yakima, WA with his family where he worked for his father's company for several years. He took a job at Yakima Valley College as a night custodian to put himself through school, eventually earning a degree. He worked for the Yakima Wastewater facility until retiring in the 1990's.
They were preceded in death by Syble's siblings, Helen Lyle, Ellen (Ronald) Hudson; and brother-in-law, Bud Duke; and John's brother-in-law, Wayne Wilson. They were followed in death by John's siblings, Raymond Johnson, Ronald Johnson, Diane Johnson,
The two of them are survived by their three children Diane Kielhorn, Donna Douglas (Thomas), and John Johnson III, their four grandchildren James Kielhorn (Regina), Justin Kielhorn (Sara), Grace Douglas, and Alison Douglas, and their six great grandchildren Emily Kielhorn, Ashley Kielhorn, Micheal Kielhorn, Riley Kielhorn, Shawn Kielhorn, and Jayden Kielhorn. Syble's siblings, Peggy Duke, Nancy Baggett, Sandy (Ronald) Logan, Sue (Lonnie) Walker, and Kathy (George) Gardner. John's siblings, Lawrence (Dorothy) Johnson, Gerald (Margo Martin) Johnson, Philip (Pat) Johnson, William (Patricia) Johnson, Russell Johnson, and Arlis Wilson.
Syble and John will be laid to rest in Indianola City Cemetery in Indianola, Mississippi, at 11:00 am on October 16th, 2021. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
