Taylor Cordel Skelton, 29, of Indianola, passed away Monday, September 19, 2022, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Taylor was born November 28, 1992, in Southaven, Mississippi, to Phillip Ray Cordel and Amanda Jaudon Cordel. She was a 2010 graduate of North Delta School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and was a cheerleader. She was 2014 graduate of Delta State University where she earned her Bachelor of Social Work degree. Taylor earned her Master of Social Work Degree from the University of Alabama and was a PhD Candidate at Walden University. She worked for Delta State University where she was Director of BSW Field Education, Faculty Senate President Elect, Phi Alpha Honor Society Faculty Sponsor, and was an Instructor of Social Work beginning in 2018. Taylor was a member of First United Methodist Church in Indianola and served on the Weekday Ministry Board. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Taylor loved her boys with her entire heart and thought her husband, Wyot, hung the moon. She was extremely quick witted, highly competent, educated, and articulate. Taylor was a straight shooter, if you didn't want the honest truth, it was best not to ask her a question.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Jerry Jaudon and paternal grandparents, John and Betty Cordel.
Taylor is survived by her husband, Wyot Skelton; two sons, Phillip Wood Skelton and Wilson Taylor Skelton, all of Indianola; father Phil (Laurie) Cordel of Batesville; mother, Amanda (Chris Woods) Cordel of Courtland; maternal grandmother, Sarah Selby of Charleston; step grandmother, Patricia Craig of Grenada; stepsister, Morgan (Chad) Eskridge of Duck Hill; stepbrother, Chase (Lorrin) Newman of Starkville; niece, Audrey Eskridge; nephew, Eli Newman; sister in love and heart, Jessica Grey Pickens; and a host of cousins.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 22, 2022, from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church in Indianola. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am with Rev. Michael Lindsay officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm at Marks Cemetery in Marks. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
