Thomas Wesley Matthews, 83, of Indianola, and formerly of Moorhead, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Delta Health the Medical Center in Greenville.

Thomas was born February 14, 1939, in Moorhead, to Hugh Wesley and Eula Griffin Matthews. He was a Mississippi Army National Guard Veteran. Thomas worked many years as a salesman and retired from New Dixie Fasteners in Greenville. He was a member of Moorhead Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Thomas was a former member of the Lions Club. He loved music and singing, especially Elvis' songs. Thomas loved rock music and played in a band in his younger years. He and his brother Freddie loved going to Cleveland and playing with the pickers and songwriters and Grover's Corner. Most of all, he loved spending time with his stepdaughters.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; Hugh Wesley and Eula Matthews; wife, Bobbie Turner Matthews; and brother, Freddie Matthews.

He is survived by three stepdaughters, Sue Ann (Buddy) Wall of Austin, Texas, Angie (Nuno) Vasconcellos of Ocean Springs, and Pam (Darrell) Braddock of Bay Springs; two sisters, Carolyn Hood of Greenville and Mary Lynn Teague of Vicksburg; one niece, Regina Hood Russell; four nephews, Bill Hood, Mike Hood, Jonathan Matthews, and Jeremiah Matthews; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, Monday, July 11, 2022, at Moorhead Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am at Moorhead Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Moorhead Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
