Obituary

Tony Lamar Roughton, 82, of Indianola, went to Heaven on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Tony was born September 17, 1940, in Bullock County, Alabama, to Ernest Wilburn and Willie Bessie Rainey Roughton. He served in the United States Air Force and Reserves for 32 years earning the rank of Lt. Colonel. Tony married the love of his life Evelyn McDade, on March 14, 1964, and together, they made their home in Indianola since 1973. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Tony and Evelyn started an antique business in 1972 importing from England while Tony worked for the Indianola Post Office. They added a restaurant, The Crown, in 1976. Tony began smoking Catfish as part of their Taste of Gourmet food processing business. Then in 1990, their Smoked Catfish Pate won the Best Hors D'oeuvre award at the New York Fancy Food Show! Tony was presented the 1997 Governor's Cup by the Southern Governors Association. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Schwartz Ward Rose Sunday School Class. Tony and Evelyn were married for 59 years and enjoyed many adventures in their marriage, all of which were wonderful. If anything could be described in a few words, "We had a real good time!!!"

Tony was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Earnest Roughton (Johnny), Bob Roughton (Kay), and James Roughton (Edith); and one sister, Betty Roughton Williams (Pete).

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn McDade Roughton of Indianola; daughter, Jennifer Schaumburg of Indianola; son, Kevin Owen Roughton and his wife Deanna of Saco, Maine; two granddaughters, Izabela Roughton of Saco, Maine and Sage Schaumburg of Indianola; two grandsons, Prescott Schaumburg of Indianola and Carter Roughton of Saco, Maine; sister-in-law, Wanda (Larry) Adams of Birmingham; nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends he loved.

A memorial service will be held , May 8th, 2023, at 3:00 at First United Methodist Church with Rev Jim Woods and Rev. Michael Lindsay officiating. A visitation will follow in Newman Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Devona Jones, Deshonda Talbert and Grace Hospice for their dedicated and compassionate care of Tony.
