Verland Kirksey, 89, of Indianola, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2020, at Indianola Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

Mr. Kirksey, affectionately known as Boots, was born October 28, 1930, in Sunflower County to Johnny Robert Kirksey and Callie Frances Burchfield Kirksey. He was a United States Army veteran. Boots loved his family and they were always his top priority. He enjoyed gardening and selling watermelons. Boots was a member of Clark Lyon VFW Post #4731 and American Legion Post #0002.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucille Graves Kirksey; daughter, Carol Kirksey Tharp; two brothers, Charlie Kirksey and John Kirksey; and two sisters, Bobbie Wheeler and Yvonne Myers.

Boots is survived by his grandson, Rodney Tharp and his wife Sam of Indianola; two great grandsons, Rodgers and Riley Tharp; three brothers, George Kirksey of Indianola, Clarence Kirksey and his wife Niecie of Indianola, and Billy Kirksey and his wife Jewel of Brandon; two sisters, Frances Roncali of Brandon, and Yvette Correo of Greenville; "daughter-in-law", Barbara Tharp of Indianola; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will have a graveside service Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
