Walter Sherman Foster passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, from complications from a stroke. Walter was born April 6, 1943, in Louise, MS to the late Walter and Nannie Chaney Foster.
Walter grew up in Cary, MS and graduated from Rolling Fork High School. He served with the Mississippi Army National Guard Reserve from 1961-1967. Living in the Delta all of his life, he loved hunting, fishing, and trapping. He began his lifelong career with Delta Implement at the age of 18, until he retired. He was a member of the American Legion and First Presbyterian Church in Belzoni. His favorite past time was watching his grandchildren play sports.
He is survived by the love of his life, Jan Hughes Foster; sisters, Betty Bradshaw (Carl) and Beverly Bobbitt; his children, Barbara Newman (John), Scott Foster (Nurlana), Peri Hoffman (Lewis), Sharon Green (Allen), Jay Hughes (Amanda), Greg Hughes (Angie), and Jeff Hughes (Ruth); grandchildren, Steven Johnson, Anna Chatham (Steven), Chris Foster (Remy), Walter Foster, Mark Foster (Sarah), Michael Foster, Donna Hampton (Dalton), David Beachum, Heath Beachum (Lily), Benjamin James, Christian Hoffman, Zach Hoffman, Andrew Green, Lola Green, Nadia Hughes, Cory Hughes (Callie), Hunter Hughes, Hollis Hughes, Cole Heigle, Logan Heigle, Brett Hughes, and Ty Hughes; 14 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and numerous other family members and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, May 7, 2021, at Gooden Lake Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Richard Wiman and Rev. Jonathan McGuire officiating. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements. The service will be live-streamed on the Burton Funeral Home Facebook page for those that are unable to attend.
