Obituary

William Glanton Fitts, 82, of Belzoni, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 13, 2023, at his home.

William was born December 12, 1940, in Moorhead, to Parker William and Ola Neoma Spivey Fitts. He was raised in Moorhead, where he graduated from Moorhead Agricultural High School. After high school, William joined the Mississippi Army National Guard and would go on to serve over 30 years prior to retiring as a First Sergeant. William taught Air Conditioning and Refrigeration at Mississippi Delta Community College for over 30 years and operated Fitts HVAC for many years. He had a long career in the industry and received many certifications. William loved the Lord with all his heart and if you didn't know it from meeting him, he was proud to tell everyone. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved being at his cabin. William was known for making wonderful Brunswick stew. He loved his four children dearly and enjoyed being a father figure to other children who needed one. One of those children said, "Pop set the perfect example of how to walk in faith with God. William was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend.  He attended Silver City Methodist Church.

William was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Shirley Fitts Pilgrim and Sylvia Fitts Peacock (Venice).

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marvie Jennings Fitts of Belzoni; two sons, William G. Fitts, Jr. (Megan) of Canton and Richard Morgan Beckham (Mindy) of Grenada; two daughters, Teresa Ann Fitts of Greenwood and Mari-Chris Beckham Savage (Sam) of Nashville, Tennessee; six grandchildren, William Parker Fitts, Riley Morgan Beckham, Nola Jennings Beckham, Samuel Field Savage, William Turner Savage, and John Beckham Savage; brother-in-law, Mark Pilgrim of Moorhead; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2023, from 9:30 am until 11:00 am, at Silver City Methodist Church in Silver City. The memorial service will begin at 11:00 am with full military honors to follow. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
