William Thomas Hancock, 82, of Doddsville, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2026, at South Sunflower County Hospital in Indianola.

William was born on January 18, 1943, in Moorhead, to Charles Henry Hancock Sr. and Beatrice Mitchell Hancock. He was a General Motors Master Technician. William worked as the Service Manager at Central Buick in Indianola for 40 years until its closure, then worked at Cannon Motors in Greenwood until his retirement in 2017, ending a 60-year career. He was a Master Mason, a member of the Eastern Star, a former Indianola Auxiliary Policeman, and an EMT. William was a devoted member of Roundaway Baptist Church in Doddsville, where over the years, he served as deacon, choir member, music leader, youth leader, and Sunday School teacher. He was a man of many talents and enjoyed hunting and fishing. To know William was to love him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles Henry Hancock, Jr.; two sisters, Lucille Hancock Russell and Velma Hancock Kwan; son, William T. Hancock, Jr.; and one grandson, William T. Hancock, III.

William is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mary Pierce Hancock; daughter, Michelle Hancock Long (Kerry) of Cruger; adopted grandson, Matthew Frank Hancock of Doddsville; and 5 grandchildren, Michael Hancock, Christian Hancock, Dr. Rhiannon Hancock, Sarah Grace Manor Jackson, and Mary Ellen Frank.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm, at Roundaway Baptist Church in Doddsville. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm with Rev. Bob Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Roundaway Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
